  • Brazil and France have signed a declaration of intent to strengthen cooperation on green hydrogen, marking a key step towards developing a sustainable energy partnership between the two countries.
  • This collaboration aims to accelerate the deployment of renewable hydrogen technologies and support broader environmental initiatives.

Brazil and France have formalized a new partnership to advance green hydrogen cooperation as part of a broader commitment to sustainable energy and climate action. On June 5, the two countries signed a declaration of intent focusing on green hydrogen, a milestone toward deepening bilateral collaboration on renewable energy initiatives.

France’s commitment to green hydrogen is underscored by the involvement of major French companies such as EDF, Engie, Qair, TotalEnergies, and Voltalia, which have collectively signed over 60 agreements related to green hydrogen in Brazil. These partnerships are designed to foster knowledge sharing and the development of certification standards between Brazil and France, reinforcing the countries’ commitment to the energy transition.

The declaration builds on Brazil’s significant renewable energy capacity, with green hydrogen production set to play a pivotal role in powering industries and transportation. France’s collaboration is expected to accelerate the deployment of this technology and support broader decarbonization efforts.

During President Lula’s visit to France, discussions focused on environmental cooperation, COP30, and the protection of natural areas on the border between Brazil and French Guiana. The leaders emphasized the importance of international collaboration to achieve sustainable development goals.

France also aims to enhance its domestic renewable hydrogen production through electrolysis while exploring opportunities for importing green hydrogen to meet future energy demands. This approach reflects France’s dedication to developing a robust renewable energy market in partnership with Brazil.

Brazil’s vast renewable resources and technical expertise position it as a key player in the green hydrogen value chain, offering opportunities for shared growth and innovation. The France-Brazil partnership signals a strong commitment to advancing renewable energy technologies and supporting global climate action.
