Recently, Suzhou Zhiqing Bocai Technology Co., Ltd., a domestic AEM anion exchange membrane R&D manufacturer, has completed the delivery of an order for an anion exchange membrane with a width of 65cm and a thickness of 60μm after a 9-month pre-product verification cycle, which will be applied to the megawatt hydrogen production project of an electrolyzer company. This delivery marks that Zhiqing Bocai has the full-scale membrane production capacity covering mainstream electrolyzer models, and verifies the technical advantages of the whole chain from material formulation design to product scale-up production.

In the industrial changes of accelerating the iteration of new energy material technology innovation, Suzhou Zhiqing Bocai Technology Co., Ltd. is becoming a key promoter of the localization process of green hydrogen core materials with a full range of AEM anion exchange membrane product systems. The company has achieved an industrial production capacity of 20-100μm thickness and 80cm ultra-wide width, and can stably deliver differentiated product matrices such as homogeneous membranes, reinforced membranes, and hydrogen depletion membranes to meet the strict needs of high-performance membrane materials in scenarios such as electrolyzers and flow batteries.

 

Dr. Peng Hanqing, co-founder and general manager of the company, is one of the few expert entrepreneurs in China who has been deeply engaged in the research and development of anion exchange membrane materials for more than ten years, graduated from Wuhan University with a major in physical chemistry, and studied under Professor Zhuang Lin, a distinguished professor of Changjiang Scholars. Professor Sun Wenbin, co-founder and chief scientist of the company, is currently the director of the Department of Applied Chemistry of the School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Materials of Heilongjiang University, the reserve leader of organic chemistry, and a member of the Key Laboratory of Functional Inorganic Materials Chemistry of the Ministry of Education. With 18 years of experience in organic chemistry/polymer research and industrialization, he is mainly engaged in the design and synthesis of organic molecules and the research of organic membrane functional materials, and is currently fully responsible for the research and development and innovation of the company's new generation products.

 

Thanks to the team's years of scientific research accumulation and perfect engineering system, Zhiqing Bocai's products have shown significant advantages in performance. The AEM series products independently developed by the company, based on the original high-efficiency polymer synthesis process and modification scheme, have achieved breakthroughs in key performance indicators: tensile strength up to 50MPa, swelling rate controlled within 8%, ionic conductivity of more than 150mS/cm. At present, the product has passed the performance verification of many leading electrolyzer companies and obtained purchase orders, and the upgraded AEM reinforced membrane and AEM hydrogen depletion membrane are also being sent to many customers one after another, entering the testing and import stage.

On the manufacturing side, Zhiqing Bocai has completed its own resin and membrane solution production line, with a total area of 1,000 square meters, which can achieve the stable production of anion exchange resin with an annual production capacity of 2 tons, and at the same time, with the help of a mature cast production line of strategic partners, it can achieve a stable supply of anion exchange membrane with an annual production capacity of 25,000 square meters.

While steadily promoting the implementation of core products, Zhiqing Bocai is also actively planning the layout of cutting-edge technologies. The company has completed the industrialization R&D layout of a number of main chain structures, covering a new "rigid chain" structure and a "flexible chain" structure of anion exchange membrane series, forming a multi-level product system covering different working conditions and performance requirements, and further building core competitive barriers. Especially in the field of flow batteries, the company is working with strategic partners to jointly develop special anion exchange membranes for flow batteries, and significantly improve the electrochemical performance and cycle life of the membrane through special structural design and thickness optimization according to the needs of energy storage scenarios, so as to seize the opportunity of the trillion-level energy storage market in the future.

 

Dr. Peng believes that the cost and durability of AEM anion-exchange membranes will be the two most important indicators in the future AEM anion-exchange membrane market. At present, the mainstream AEM structure in the market must not be the ultimate solution in terms of stability, and Zhiqing Bocai has been determined to explore new AEM structure design since the establishment of the company.
