On January 3, 2025, China Huadian Group unveiled two state-of-the-art hydrogen production systems—a 500Nm³/h PEM electrolyzer and a 3300Nm³/h alkaline electrolyzer—at its Huadian (Tianjin) High-End Intelligent Manufacturing and Innovation Base. Additionally, the launch of a 2.5MW PEM electrolyzer demonstration platform solidified Huadian's role in advancing China’s hydrogen technology, filling critical domestic gaps in large-scale hydrogen production and supporting the nation’s dual carbon goals.

 

 

 

The 500Nm³/h PEM electrolyzer, co-developed with the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, boasts reduced precious metal loading by 30%, a high current density of 3A/cm², and a hydrogen production capacity of 500Nm³/h per unit. Similarly, the 3300Nm³/h alkaline electrolyzer achieves double the current density of conventional models, improved energy efficiency, and a 50% reduction in tank weight. The 2.5MW PEM platform, the largest of its kind in China, provides a robust testing foundation for future megawatt-scale electrolyzers, marking a significant step forward in the hydrogen energy sector.

 

 

 

The "Huazhen" 3300Nm 3 /h alkaline electrolyzer that rolled off the production line this time was independently developed by Huadian Science and Industry, and has high current density, high energy utilization efficiency, and high resistance to reverse current. The product's operating current density is ≥6000A/m 2 , which is about 100% higher than the current density of conventional thousand-cubic-meter electrolyzers, and the tank weight is about 50% lower than that of traditional electrolyzers of the same scale; the electrolyzer load adjustment range is 20%-110%, and the overall performance indicators have achieved a leapfrog improvement.

 

 

 

The 2.5 MW PEM electrolyzer demonstration platform launched at the same time is currently the industry's largest PEM test platform. It is of great significance to the development of megawatt-level electrolyzer testing and verification capabilities in the hydrogen energy industry, and will provide a solid foundation for my country's high-power PEM electrolyzer product research and development and technological updates.
