Next Hydrogen completes durability test of GEN2 electrolysis cells, paving way for commercial deployment
Next Hydrogen has successfully completed an extended durability test of its GEN2 electrolysis cells for green hydrogen production. Using widely accepted testing protocols, the GEN2 cells demonstrated minimal degradation during intermittent operation. The company also surpassed 3,000 hours of cyclic testing, ensuring commercial readiness.
Raveel Afzaal, President and CEO of Next Hydrogen, said: “This represents a significant milestone for us as we move into product commercialization. We are also upsizing our products and plan to demonstrate an even larger and more efficient GEN3 product version in 2025 based on leveraging our GEN2 success.”
The GEN2 cells will be incorporated into Next Hydrogen’s modular product line, available in sizes of 0.75 MW, 1.5 MW, and 2.25 MW.
The company previously reported achieving leading efficiency with its GEN2 cells in October 2023. The cells operate at less than 1.9 V per cell at 1 amp/cm² and 70°C, surpassing the US Department of Energy (DOE) technical targets for energy efficiency while maintaining a peak operating point twice as high. Additionally, a 10% turn-down demonstrated ‘best-in-class’ performance, making the system an optimal solution for direct renewable energy integration in green hydrogen production.
