Qingneng Co., Ltd. and Rongcheng New Energy cooperated with universities and cooperative enterprises to tackle AEM hydrogen production technology, and were selected as key technology projects in Shanghai
Recently, led by Shanghai Qingneng Heruz New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Qingneng Co., Ltd., together with Tongji University, Fudan University, Tianjin Zhonghe Energy Management Co., Ltd. (a subsidiary of Rongcheng New Energy Group), and Shanghai Jiping New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., the project of "Key Materials and High-power Stack Design Technology for Hydrogen Production by Anion Exchange Membrane Electrolysis Water Production" was successfully selected as the "New Energy" project of Shanghai's 2025 key technology research and development plan. The project aims to break through the key technical bottlenecks of the high-performance and low-cost AEM water electrolysis hydrogen production system and promote the industrialization of green hydrogen.

In order to serve the national "dual carbon" strategic goal, this project focuses on the development technology of complete sets of equipment for high-performance and high-power anion exchange membrane electrolyzers that can be mass-produced, and is committed to breaking through core technical problems such as high-efficiency catalysts/electrodes, high-performance anion exchange resins/membranes, high-efficiency electrolyzers, and operation control strategies under characteristic working conditions. The project closely follows the research idea of "key materials and components-core equipment development-testing and verification", and makes every effort to carry out technical research.
The project is expected to form a complete set of devices and production lines for mass-produced high-performance high-power anion exchange membrane electrolyzers with completely independent intellectual property rights, with a rated power of ≥ 1MW, a rated hydrogen current density of ≥ 10,000A/m², a DC power consumption of ≤ of 4.5kWh/Nm³ under rated power, a power operating range of 10%~130%, a voltage decay rate of ≤5% for 2,000 hours of operation at rated power, and an annual production capacity of ≥ 200MW. These core indicators have reached the international leading level. In addition, the project will also develop a complete set of anion exchange membrane electrolyzer equipment to be applied and demonstrated in the practical scenario of "photovoltaic-anion exchange membrane electrolysis hydrogen production-blast furnace hydrogen-rich smelting", providing high-performance and high-economical "clean energy" solutions for green hydrogen production.
Qingneng Co., Ltd. has given full play to its advantages in technology research and development, engineering and industrialization in this joint application, combined with the original innovation strength of universities and the resource advantages of cooperative enterprises, forming a strong innovation synergy. In addition, Zhong Management, as one of the project undertaking units, will also rely on its rich experience in alkaline electrolyzer (ALK) hydrogen production operation to focus on large-scale testing and engineering verification of AEM electrolyzers, accelerating the technology from laboratory to commercial application.
The successful implementation of this project will provide strong support for our country to achieve the "double carbon" goal, promote the high-quality development of the hydrogen energy industry, and help the energy transformation of the steel industry. At the same time, the project results will further enhance our country's competitiveness in the international hydrogen energy field and contribute China's wisdom and strength to the development of the global green hydrogen energy economy.

○ Development and batch manufacturing technology of high-performance membrane electrodes for water electrolysis of water exchange membranes, Shanghai Tangfeng Energy Technology Co., Ltd
○ The research on fuel cells and solid-state hydrogen storage systems for hydrogen two-wheelers and embodied robots was undertaken by Shanghai Zhuoyide Robot Co., Ltd
