MOL’s10MW green hydrogen plant at Danube refinery enters production
A 10MW green hydrogen plant at MOL’s Danube refinery in Százhalombatta, Hungary, has entered production. The facility will produce 1,600 tonnes of carbon-neutral hydrogen annually, which will be used for fuel production, reducing the Danube refinery’s carbon dioxide emissions by 25,000 tonnes.
The 10MW electrolysis unit was supplied by Power Plug. Following the plant’s inauguration in April 2024, MOL carried out pressure tests, inspected the process control system, connected the electrolyser cells to the system, and put the water treatment system into operation.
“Green hydrogen is a clean and versatile energy source that we currently use for fuel production to reduce our carbon dioxide footprint, and according to our plans, soon it can be directly used in the transportation sector as well,” said Ádám Horváth, New and Sustainable Businesses Vice President of MOL Group. “After Százhalombatta, we are planning similar plants in Bratislava and Rijeka of which the latter can commence operations in 2026.”
