The world's largest single-unit capacity pure hydrogen gas turbine successfully delivered
July 29, 2025- The world's first 30 MW-class pure hydrogen gas turbine, "Jupiter-1," independently developed by Mingyang Hydrogen Energy, a holding subsidiary of Mingyang Smart Energy, was successfully shipped from Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, and delivered to Etuoke Banner, Ordos City, Inner Mongolia. It will be applied to the 30 MW-class pure hydrogen gas turbine hydrogen energy storage demonstration project, a supporting project of Shenzhen Energy Group's Etuoke Banner wind-solar hydrogen production integrated synthetic green ammonia project. This marks a milestone step in China's pure hydrogen power generation using gas turbines.

Pure hydrogen gas turbines are high-end power equipment in the energy field and a key link in realizing hydrogen-electricity conversion. They feature zero carbon emissions, low investment per kilowatt, fast start-stop and response, wide adjustment time scales, broad adjustment power range, in-depth reactive power compensation, no location restrictions, and short construction periods. In June this year, the National Energy Administration issued the "Notice on Organizing the Pilot Work of Hydrogen Energy in the Energy Field," proposing to carry out pilot projects of hydrogen/ammonia blending/pure hydrogen power generation in gas turbines. The "Jupiter-1" 30 MW-class pure hydrogen gas turbine has completed the development of combustion chamber components, full-machine ignition, and full-machine full-speed no-load testing in Wuxi and is currently the world's largest capacity pure hydrogen gas turbine unit. With the official shipment and delivery of "Jupiter-1" and its upcoming entry into empirical demonstration, it signifies that China has achieved a major breakthrough in pure hydrogen power generation using gas turbines, which is of great significance for solving the problem of curtailment of new energy in China and helping build a new power system.
The 30MW-class pure hydrogen gas turbine hydrogen energy storage demonstration project has a hydrogen production scale of 48,000 Nm³/h, with 12 sets of 1,875 m³ spherical tanks for hydrogen storage, and a supporting power source of a 500 MW wind power project. The downstream chemical industry includes a 150,000-ton annual output synthetic ammonia plant and is also equipped with a 30 MW-class pure hydrogen gas turbine for hydrogen energy storage. Through the "electricity-hydrogen-electricity" scenario and model, it realizes the coordination of the industrial chain of hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, and hydrogen-fired power generation; supports the absorption of higher penetration rates of renewable energy; and enables the cross-time scale storage and regulation of electricity, providing demonstration and support for large-scale hydrogen energy applications. The 30 MW-class pure hydrogen gas turbine hydrogen energy storage demonstration project is expected to start in August and realize the world's largest capacity pure hydrogen gas turbine test demonstration by the end of 2025.
The successful shipment of "Jupiter-1" is a major breakthrough for Mingyang Smart Energy in the hydrogen energy field and a strong testament to the new productive forces of China's energy equipment manufacturing industry. Looking to the future, Mingyang Smart Energy will accelerate the strategic layout of "wind, solar, storage, hydrogen, and combustion," inject new momentum into the high-quality development of the new energy industry, and contribute more to the global energy transition.
