July 24, 2025-The world's first hydrogen-powered urban rail train, independently developed by CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd., successfully completed operational tests in Changchun. During this test, the train achieved full-system, full-scenario, and multi-level performance verification, marking a new breakthrough in the application of hydrogen energy in the rail transit sector.

The train is equipped with a hydrogen fuel cell system on its roof, which generates electricity through electrochemical reactions, converting chemical energy into electrical energy. The only by-product is pure water, achieving zero carbon emissions. It is also fitted with an AI energy management system, reducing energy consumption by 60% compared to traditional diesel trains and lowering noise by 15 decibels. The train has a maximum speed of 160 km/h and a range of 1,000 km on a single hydrogen refueling.

After the successful development of the train, the research team conducted a series of vehicle-level tests, including energy consumption, range, reliability, traction, braking, and dynamics under different speed levels. For the first time, the actual performance of the hydrogen-powered train was verified in an ambient temperature range of -35°C to 35°C, with all indicators meeting the vehicle's design requirements. This achievement not only enhances passengers' travel experience but also significantly improves energy utilization efficiency, providing strong support for urban sustainable development. It represents an important exploration and practice of China's high-speed rail in the field of green energy.
